The Powerball lottery draw had been scheduled for Monday, August 15th and it saw a number of players walk away with prizes.
North Carolina
One lucky player hails from North Carolina, who was able to land a prize of $1 million. Lottery officials have urged the players to check their tickets.
The ticket for the Powerball draw was purchased by the winner in Hayesville at the Ingles located on US 64 East.
The ticket cost $2 and the player was able to match all five numbers in Monday night’s draw to land the $1 million prize.
Lottery officials disclosed that this was the largest prize that had been won nationally. They further said that the odds of matching all five numbers in the Powerball draw are 1 in 11.6 million.
The lucky winner now has a time period of 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their winnings.
Saturday night’s draw
The Saturday night’s draw of the Powerball lottery had also helped a Mississippi lottery player land a big win.
The player had purchased their ticket in McComb and were able to turn their $50,000 prize in the August 13th draw into a bonanza of $500,000.
The ticket was bought on South Broadway at Broadway Mart and the player chose their own numbers. They were able to match four out of the five numbers, along with the Powerball number.
However, their prize increased because the player decided to spend the extra dollar to opt for the Powerball multiplier.
Jeff Hewitt, the President of the Mississippi Lottery Commission, said that such a win was great to see because it shows how a multiplier can increase winnings.
