Two friends hailing from the Ottawa-Gatineau area were able to land the Lotto 6/49 jackpot worth $5 million, after they decided to play the numbers that they had seen in a dream nearly 20 years ago.
The winners
Gatineau’s Marc Lafleur and Vanier’s Germain Ouellette have been playing the lottery together for two decades now and the two retired friends have finally hit big.
According to a news release, Lafleur said that he had had a dream in the 90s about these lottery numbers.
They had appeared to him as winning numbers, so he had written them down when he got up. He said that he had been watching the news when the said numbers came on screen.
Since he had memorized the numbers, he was able to recognize them immediately. He was shocked and had immediately hoped that Germain had purchased a ticket.
Oulette had also found out about the win at the same time. He revealed that he had seen an email from OLG when he checked his emails and he was informed that he had won a big prize.
Germain said that he had immediately texted his friend to tell him that they had won $5 million.
Plans
The good news for the two retired friends is that they did not just win the Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot, but also won an additional prize on one of their Lotto 6/49 selections of about $933.
This means that the total amount of their winnings is around $5,000,933.40. Marc is planning to use his share of the prize to buy a car, make some investments and take a trip to Paris.
As for Germain, he said that he would also make investments and would travel to Europe. Lafleur said that he was pleased to have continued playing with the same numbers.
It may have taken two decades, but his dream came true. Ouellette said that he was still speechless because it seemed crazy for them to have won such a huge prize.
Another win
The February 8th, Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw also saw two sisters from the Windsor area land a prize of $1 million.
Jacqueline Walsh and Kerry Howling have been playing the lottery together for the last two and a half years.
Howling revealed that she had discovered the win when she was having coffee one morning and checked their tickets.
She disclosed that she had taken off her classes to clean them because she could not believe that they had won.
Howling had shared the news with her sister and the two had been unable to speak because it had come as such a shock.
Walsh said that she could not believe it. They are now planning a party for celebrating their win. They will take a trip and also share their winnings with their sons.
