Hailing from Northern Ontario, a retired mechanic checked his lottery ticket more than a dozen times before he finally begun to accept that he had won the $70 million jackpot prize in the Lotto Max draw conducted on February 26th. The morning after the 60-year old had drawn his winning ticket, he had checked his OLG Lottery app and discovered that it was showing the grand prize of ‘$70 million on the screen.
Marc Meilleur was not convinced that he had won the jackpot, so he went to this wife Dorothy-Ann to tell her that he may possibly have a winning ticket. He said that his wife thought he was joking, so he scanned the ticket once more to show her the prize on the screen. Dorothy-Ann couldn’t believe it, so she checked the numbers herself. Once she had done so, the couple decided to drive down to the Mayer Services Esso located on David. N Street in Noelville, Ontario, as that’s where Meilleur had purchased the ticket.
A friend of the Meilleurs, the owner of the gas station in Noelville decided to wait until all the customers had gone from the store before validating the ticket. This prompted an OLG representative to call Meilleur and the store owner. Meilleur’s wife said that she shed tears of joy. Both of them shared the amazing news with their family and the first call they made was to their daughter who is based in the Sudbury area. Next, they texted both of theirs sons.
Dorothy-Ann and Meilleur have a total of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well. Meilleur said that every parent wants to provide the best for their kids and now they would be able to do so without any worries. He said that they wanted their kids to be able to buy new vehicles and homes, but were also working with financial advisers to help them in securing the future of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Apart from that, the couple is also planning to buy a new RV and truck and wants to travel across Canada, once it becomes safe to do so. They also want to purchase a new home in the Sudbury region and to assist different institutions and charities that are dear to them. Meilleur said that flying wasn’t something he enjoyed, so he wanted to drive and see all of the country that he loved. He said that beginning from the east coast, there are a lot of beautiful areas that can be discovered in the country.
Meilleur and his wife have been playing the lottery for years now and both of them buy their own tickets in order to ensure they don’t miss any draw.
