Unfortunately, there were no winners for the grand prize in the said Mega Millions draw, which means that the massive jackpot amount will now roll over for the next draw.
This is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 16th and the jackpot for the draw will now be a whopping $256 million, with a cash value of around $137.4 million.
The Mega Millions lottery draws are conducted every Tuesday and Friday in 45 states in the US, along with the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.
Other winners
Even though there were no winners for the grand prize in Tuesday night’s draw of the Mega Millions lottery, there were some other winners.
One lucky player became an instant millionaire after the latest Mega Millions drawing. They managed to hit the Match 5 in the draw, which allowed them to win a prize of $1 million.
Hailing from New York, the player had not bought the Megaplier with their ticket, or they would have ended up with a win of $4 million.
Other than the only instant millionaire, there were some other smaller wins in the Mega Millions draw. There were a total of 12 players who were able to hit the Match 4, along with the Gold Mega Ball.
This allowed them to walk away with $10,000 each. However, there was only one of them who not only hit the Match and the Gold Mega Ball, but also opted for the Megaplier.
Therefore, they were able to increase their prize to $40,000. The rest of the prizes that were paid out in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing were between $2 and $2,000.
Meanwhile, the deadline for the Illinois winner of the $1.34 billion jackpot in the Mega Millions lottery to choose between an annuity and lump sum payment is approaching.
Winners can claim their winnings in a year, but they only have 60 days from the date of the draw to decide the type of payment they wish to get.
The winner from Illinois has to decide between receiving a lump sum payment of $780.5 million and 29 annual payments that increase each year by 5% and they have until September 27th to do so.
After that, they will not be able to pick on their own and will have to accept their prize as an annuity. The winning ticket was sold in Des Plaines, Illinois by the Speedway service station, which will also receive a prize of $500,000.
