The Mega Millions draw conducted on Friday, 22nd July that had a jackpot worth $660 million had no winner, which means it was rolled over for the draw on Tuesday. The jackpot for the draw on July 26th increased to an incredible $790 million, with a cash option of $464.4 million.
According to the Mega Millions website, this would make it the fourth largest jackpots won in any lottery game.
However, it now appears that the prize for the Tuesday night’s drawing has been jacked up from $790 million to a whopping $810 million because of the interest in the draw and the cash option is now $470.1 million.
Friday night’s draw
The winning numbers for the Mega Millions drawing on Friday night were 60, 66, 14, 40 and 64 and 16 was the Megaball. The Megaplier for the draw was 3X. While no players were able to match all the six numbers, there were a total of 3,428,412 winning tickets at various prize levels.
The lottery confirmed that four players managed to match five numbers to win the second prize in the Mega Millions lottery i.e. $1 million.
However, three of these winners had opted or the Megaplier, which means they walked away with $3 million each. The tickets were sold in New York, New Jersey and Delaware. The ticket that won $1 million was bought in Virginia.
The Delaware ticket worth $3 million is the largest prize to be won in the state in the Mega Millions lottery.
Mega Millions jackpots
The last 28 consecutive drawings of the Mega Millions lottery have seen no jackpot winners. The last time the jackpot was won had been in the draw conducted on April 15th when a Tennessee player had taken home $20 million. The grand prize has been growing since then.
There have only been three other lottery jackpots that are bigger than the one for Tuesday’s drawing of the Mega Millions lottery. Two of these prizes were of the Mega Millions lottery.
These include that of the draw on October 23, 2018, which was worth $1.537 billion and was taken home in South Carolina.
The second one was paid out on January 22nd, 2021 to a player in Michigan and was worth $1.050 billion. The biggest lottery prize to have been paid out was in the Powerball lottery in the draw on January 13th, 2016 and was a whopping $1.586 billion.
