Opting for the lump sum means that winners take home the cash value of the prize. If they choose the annuity option, they get one immediate payment.
The rest of the prize is paid out in 29 annual payments, with each increasing by 5%.
The Mega Millions lottery draws are held twice in a week, every Tuesday and Friday and people from 45 states, long with the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia can participate.
