The Mega Millions lottery draw was conducted on Tuesday, September 20th and had a jackpot worth $277 million that came with a cash option for $147.5 million.
Unfortunately, no one was able to match all the numbers to claim this big prize, which means that it has rolled over for the next draw.
Jackpot climbs
The winning numbers for Tuesday night’s draw of the Mega Millions lottery were 09, 21, 28, 30 and 52 and 10 was the gold Mega Ball. As for the Megaplier, it was 5X.
The next Mega Millions drawing is now scheduled to occur on Friday, September 23rd and since the previous jackpot amount has rolled over, it comes with a big prize.
Those who participate in the draw on Friday will have the opportunity to win a jackpot worth $301 million and it comes with a cash value of $160.3 million.
The Mega Millions lottery is available in 45 states and the District of Columbia, along with the US Virgin Islands.
Other winners
Even though there were no grand prize winners on Tuesday night, there were other people who won prizes in the Mega Millions lottery draw.
Two players were able to hit the Match 5, one from Virginia and the other from New York, allowing both of them to become millionaires overnight with a prize of $1 million each.
Had the two players decided to go with the Megaplier with their Match 5, they would have increased their winnings to $5 million.
There were a number of other players who won smaller prizes on the same night. A total of 15 were lucky enough to hit the Match 4 and the gold Mega Ball, so they won $10,000 each.
Four of these players had chosen to play with the Megaplier option, which meant that their winnings were now $50,000 each.
The rest of the prizes that were given out in the draw were between $2 and $2,500.
The grand jackpot
In other news, the third-largest lottery prize in US history was the Mega Millions jackpot of $1.34 billion and two people finally came forward to claim it.
The two had a single lottery ticket and had agreed to split the prize between each other. It had taken 29 consecutive draws before the six numbers were finally matched, allowing the jackpot to grow.
A winning ticket had finally been found in the draw conducted on July 29th and the winning numbers were 13, 36, 45, 57, 67 and 14 was the Mega Ball.
The winning ticket had been bought in the Des Plaines suburb in Chicago and the two who claimed the prize chose to remain anonymous.
Lottery players in Illinois are permitted to keep their identity hidden if they want. The winners had not come forward earlier because they had been consulting with legal and financial advisors.
They decided to take the lump sum payment instead of the annuity, which means they walk away with $780.5 million, eight weeks after the lucky draw.
